Changing table
A waist-height, stable surface built for diaper changes, usually with raised edges and storage underneath.
A changing table is furniture built specifically for diaper changes, set at a height that avoids bending over and typically featuring raised edges, sometimes called a changing pad or table topper, to help keep a baby from rolling off the side. Many include drawers or shelves underneath for diapers, wipes and clothing, turning the table into the center of a diapering station.
Stability is the main safety consideration, the table should sit level and not wobble under a squirming baby's weight, and any changing pad on top should be securely attached rather than a loose cushion that can slide. Some families use a dresser topper instead of a dedicated table, which works as long as the dresser itself is anchored to the wall and the topper is a secure fit.
The most repeated guidance for this piece of furniture is simple but easy to forget mid-change: keep one hand on the baby at all times, since babies can move unexpectedly even before they can roll on their own. Keeping diapers, wipes and a change of clothes within arm's reach avoids the temptation to step away, even briefly, while the baby is on the table.
