# Best Nursery Rugs for Soft, Safe Floors (2026) Source: https://nurserysetupnest.com/best/nursery-rugs Updated: 2026-09-15 Publisher: Nursery Setup Nest. Our score is an editorial rating out of 10 (fit 35%, features 25%, build 20%, value 20%), not a customer rating. Method: https://nurserysetupnest.com/how-we-research#our-score A nursery rug adds warmth and a soft landing for tummy time, crawling, and early steps. Look for a plush yet low-pile surface that cushions falls without tripping little feet, a non-slip backing or a separate rug pad to keep it anchored, and a material that spot-cleans or machine-washes easily, since spills are inevitable. Low-VOC, non-toxic materials matter in a space where your baby spends time at floor level. Nursery rugs suit play areas and reading corners, and a washable design saves endless worry about stains. A practical tip: always secure the rug with a non-slip pad, especially on hardwood or tile, so it cannot slide when your baby pulls up or cruises across it. Choose a size that defines the play zone with room to grow, air out new rugs before use to let any factory odor dissipate, and vacuum regularly to keep the surface clean. ## Picks ### 1.
